Posted Breed: Unknown breed (short coat). Meet Blitzen! Blitzen and his siblings were named after Santa's reindeer because they were rescued right around Christmas time. They were left behind on a property when the owner moved out. Mom was with them (she is also with us) but she did not have milk for the puppies and the pups had no other food source. When they came to us the little ones were not in good shape. They were very underweight, covered in fleas etc. All of the pups are now doing wonderfully in a foster home. They are gaining weight, growing well and developing super little personalities. They are great little pups! We are excited to find them all their forever homes, where they will never experience neglect again. Puppies are a big commitment and require patient training, socialization and proper activity. The pups are too young to spend much time alone. The pups are all quite small (around 3 lbs) and will probably be medium in size when full grown. All pups are on a vaccination schedule, have been de-wormed and chipped. They will be spayed and neutered when they are older and this is paid for as part of the adoption contract. Their adoption fee is $495. We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
