Posted Breed: Unknown breed. Ash is an amazing boy who clearly lived in a home prior to us finding him. He has had zero accidents, sleeps overnight in a crate with no complaints, loves belly rubs, and will sit patiently in the kitchen while you cook dinner. He is estimated to be 1-2 years old and is not neutered, but we will work with the adopter to help finance and schedule this surgery. He is up to date on shots, house trained, crate trained, dog friendly, and does well on a leash. He likes men and women, seems ok with older kids, and has had positive reactions to cats/chickens, but unsure if he'd try to chase them. Ash will open up quickly in a new home! I think he’d love a dog sibling of his own size too for playing, but will also be perfectly happy as a solo dog. He’s a physical player and not into toys, unless it’s his Wobbler filled with dry food. He is relatively low energy, happy with some walks and belly rubs. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
