Description
Posted Breed: Black Labrador Retriever (medium coat). The dogs Arcadia Animal Rescue saves are mainly located in southern states, such as NC, SC, TN and TX. We can transport to most states, through partner networks. Virtual meet n greets can be arranged for all non-local adopters. Harlie is a 5 mo old, apx 20 lb lab mix puppy who just arrived from our partner rescue in Albania where there is an abundance of stray dogs living on the streets, subject sadly to abuse and mistreatment by passersby. Harlie was found as very young puppy on the street with two other siblings but without a mother or food. Both her brother and sister died of Parvo soon after being rescued and before they could be vaccinated. :,-( Harlie recovered from her weakness, never broke with parvo, and bonded with the other puppies at shelter after losing her siblings. She has a very happy and curious personality - full of joy and love. She definitely wants to engage and interact with new people. She craves affection, is silly and playful but at the same time gentle and graceful. Harlie has a beautiful shiny soft coat and very lovely big soft ears. She flops over easily for belly rubs and really wants to be by your side as a loyal companion! She is crate trained but does not know how to walk on a leash. Harlie will do best in a home with kids and another social, easy-going dog to make her feel comfortable and confident in her new surroundings and teach her things (like how to walk on a leash, etc.). This is far from ideal, they really need to be in loving homes. Due to record number owner surrenders this year, we have zero foster homes available. Fostering helps save another pup from euthanasia in an overcrowded kill shelter needing to free up a kennel. If you can foster, go to .arcadiarescue/foster and fill out a foster application. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
