Although a little shy at first, it doesn't take long for Forest to warm up to new people and surroundings, greeting them with his wagging tail and curious sniffs. Forest loves nothing more than exploring the great outdoors, discovering new trails and enjoying quality time with his person. Forest’s friendly nature makes him a popular pup among his furry peers. Forest is a true gem of a companion, ready to accompany you on all of your adventures, no matter where they take you! Walk-ins are welcome! Stop by during our open hours to meet our available dogs!! Before you can adopt, please complete an adoption questionnaire on our website at pawscrossedny/dog-adoption-questionnaire. If you have any questions, please email us at adoptionspawscrossedny for more information. Please understand that we cannot hold any pets. All adoptions are done on a first come, first adopt basis for pre-approved applicants. The Shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess.

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
