Description
Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat). "Dobby has no master. Dobby is a free dog." As a foster mom, I'd love to share with you a very special soul. Dobby's name is Dobby for a reason. He comes to rescue after a very abused past which led him to roam and hide for many months in southern MO. I'm not sure which is worse to imagine, his terror he once went through or the horribly embedded collar Dobby had prior to having it surgically removed. The images are too graphic to share but if you look into his eyes and see something there, we will expose how Dobby entered into rescue. For now, I want to share with you how much Dobby has grown in personality and all of his qualities. Dobby has been in rescue since early February 2019. In little time, a fully feral dog, that shivered at the sight and touch of a human, he has come a long way. Dobby has learned, at least in his current setting, how to be a dog. A dog that shares space with other dogs (little to big, male and female); a dog that seeks affection and touch from humans (mainly women at this point); a dog that cuddles in bed every night or on the couch because he can; a dog that plays, rough-houses, and learns new things because it's fun and treats are wonderful; and a dog that found his voice, because what cattledog doesn't! Truth is, it wasn't just a patient, soft human that taught him these things - it was his fur-family as well. Dobby needs a patient and friendly fur-member to keep that spark in his eyes and share the confidence. Dobby's ideal home setting would be patient, kind, positive, have a very secure, privacy fenced yard (likely not a chain link- it is too easy for him to be tempted to jump in a moment of scare), have another dog as sort of his guide, and for now, at least a human mom that will help ease him into a new home, setting and continue teaching him. Dobby is housebroken and crate trained and is very food motivated. Dobby takes treats gently from your hand and will continue gaining trust with people with some home exercises involving treats/food and hand feeding. He’s also quite the talker! Loves to yoddle and approach for affection. Dobby fears alpha dogs and would not do well paired with one. He likely isn't going to be an easy companion to take on a hike, as attaching a leash to his collar (even for a vet visit) is still very traumatic for him. In time, this can change but will take practice and positive encouragement. However, for the right family, Dobby could start his journey. He has met a lot of new people - from families coming over to visit and pick their newest member from a foster litter of puppies, to normal guests/neighbors and even the dog sitter. However, due to Dobby's unpredictable leash behavior, walks and outdoor events are not really his thing. If you or your family see what loving soul he has to offer and up for a challenge, I know the loyalty and love he can share will bring mutual gain. Please submit an adoption application which helps us answer the most basic of questions to see if there's a potential connection between you and Dobby!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
