Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat). Location: Middletown, DE. Say hello to JoJo! She is a 4 year old red heeler. For JoJo, playing and cuddling is her favorite activity! Curious, sweet and energetic, she loves to be with you. She likes to chew on toys, water bottles, climb surfaces, and always come back to people for cuddles and snuggles. She always shows a lot of enthusiasm and intelligence of her being a cattle dog. She is a lovely blend of curious and cuddly. She is social, confident, but can be scared at times of things shes encountered. She has met children and people of all shapes and sizes, taken car rides, visited the vet, and more. For the past 4 years she has had routine training for basic commands, but sometimes is headstrong and ignores them. JoJo does have food guarding issues sometimes. She has fought with her brother (Blue Heeler) twice, but otherwise gets along with dogs. She does get anxious and loud around items with wheels (bikes, trash cans, etc). JoJo is currently on fluoxetine for anxiety and that seems to help. She will need a fenced in yard, or someone experienced with herding breeds that can teach her boundaries. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
