Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat). Location: Raleigh, NC Meet Chief Leroy! ~3yrs old around 45lbs Raleigh, NC This big boy is SWEET & loveable. He was found as a stray in NC & landed himself in an extremely over crowded shelter and time was ticking! He was completely shut down, tail between his legs, afraid, & walked the slowest he could afraid where he’d go next. Now? He LOVES toys, will chase a frisbee, bounces around in complete happiness. He wants to be your best friend & get loved on. He had some UR issues after he got fixed, so his foster home hasnt had him around her own dogs yet. But he will walk by them (in kennels) no problem. He will be tested with them shortly but he did dog test with no issues at the shelter. He may be a *bit* too interested in cats & want to chase if given the chance. He rides well in a car AND quietly in a kennel. He kennels well at home & is QUIET. He sleeps through the night with no issues. So far, not a barker. In terms of energy, I wouldnt consider him a high energy cattledog- he’s likely a happy low-medium lovebug ? He’ll be tested with kids, but I dont think itll be an issue. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
