Description
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Tony is a new stray at the shelter who was unfortunately never reclaimed. He is a gorgeous Shepherd mix who is probably just about a year old and still has some goofy puppy mannerisms. He appears to be a blank slate with regards to training so far and he can be a bit jumpy but takes corrections well. With some basic manners lessons he will be a super star in no time! All Perth Amboy Animal Shelter residents will be fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered and microchipped prior to adoption. You must be 23 or older to adopt from the shelter, complete an Adoption Application and pay the associated adoption fee. The application must be approved by the shelter staff and all adoptions are finalized based on the best interests of our animals. Come visit us Monday - Friday between 10am and 4pm and Saturday/Sunday from 10am - 3pm. Contact us at (732) 324-3877 and don't forget to ask about our Foster Program!

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
