Posted Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Hey there, I'm Lou, and I'm pretty sure my previous owners forgot to read the fine print that says "dogs are for life, not just for Christmas." My friend Mary and I were abandoned in the Pet Savers parking lot like yesterday's garbage, but don't worry, we don't hold a grudge. We're just excited to find a forever home where we'll be loved and appreciated for the gems we are. I'm a medium-sized mixed breed with a whole lot of energy, so if you're looking for a couch potato, move along, friend. But if you're someone who can keep up with my zest for life and endless enthusiasm, we're gonna have a blast together! I'm a firm believer in the power of exercise and playtime, so let's go run, jump, and fetch until we're both panting and happy. All jokes aside, I'm a loving and loyal pup who just wants to be part of a family that will cherish me for the rest of my days. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
