Adoption Fee: $375.00. ____________________________________________________________ Jeanine Daugherty Sherlock is an elderly gentleman located in central Wisconsin who is looking for a place to spend his golden year. He was found wandering as a stray and was heart worm positive. For the past year, Sherlock has been treated for that heart worm and is now completely free of all parasites. He is also fully vaccinated and neutered. Sherlock would prefer that home be with an easy going female dog or as an only dog as he is past the age of competing with other boys for attention. He is good in a crate in the car and at home. Sherlock is well trained and knows commands in several languages. While he can sound very protective when he hears people outside of his foster home, he quickly warms up to people who have been invited in and is happy to meet people when out and about. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
