LEX NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Lex Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd Mix Best Guess for Age: 1.5 years as of January 2024 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 35 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We have tested Lex with some of the cats at the shelter, and he did not seem particularly interested in chasing or pouncing on the cat. While this is a positive sign that Lex could live with a cat, he has not done so to our knowledge. If you have cats in your home, we are happy to discuss with you how to best introduce a new pup to your pack! Currently Living at: DC area foster home. Lex is Looking For: His forever home! Through no fault of his own, this handsome boy ended up in the shelter. He is full of fun, young dog energy and is ready to have his own humans to trot alongside on sniffy walks, romps in local parks, and all the adventures they can dream up! Exploring all the toys sounds great too, as well as some delicious kibble and a cushy dog bed. Most of all, though, he wants to know he's safe and loved and under his own roof every time the sun goes down. In exchange, he promises adoring gazes, cuddles, and loyalty for all his days. What do you say? Is Lex the companion you've been looking for? What My Foster Says About Me: "Lex is doing pretty well so far! He really loves the staff and is more of a people dog. He's learning how to play with dogs of all sizes, but he can get a little snippy with dogs who try to get in his space when he's winding down for a nap. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
