Description
Posted Breed: Cattle Dog (short coat). Adoption Fee: $200. Meet Dodger! This very sharp little guy came to us as his family knew he deserved more. He has lived his life outside, and has been known to wander to & from in the countryside. He has quickly become very appreciative of the indoor lifestyle - clean and dry bedding, lots of attention from volunteers, several great daily walks outdoors, and most importantly ALL of the toys and treats he could ever ask for! Safe Haven staff and volunteers have learned very quickly that Dodger is a real sweetheart. He thoroughly loves ALL of the attention and gives sooo many sloppy kisses in return! Since Dodger has never lived indoors, he will need a home that is ready to work on basic housetraining and help him get started on the right foot with a routine. He has been doing well with keeping his kennel space clean, but working on a routine for him will be an important part of his future. The owner's told us that Dodger got along well with their neighbor dog - he has not shown any reactivity towards other dogs since being in our care. An initial meet & greet with any future dogs he may have in his new forever home would be important to ensure proper introductions take place. It is unknown whether or not Dodger would get along with cats. Dodger has been brought up-to-date on his vaccinations, tested negative for Heartworm, he was previously neutered, he has had a microchip implanted for identification purposes, and has been started on monthly flea/tick & Heartworm preventatives. He is ready to begin his search for his new forever home! If you are interested in meeting Dodger, please complete an online adoption application found on our website at .wesavepets. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
