Posted Breed: Pointer / Mixed (short coat). Elvis is very playful and friendly. He is good with kids but has a lot of energy so should be with ones that are not too young. He may knock them over. He still has a huge amount of puppy energy. He gets along with other dogs, if another dog is reactive to him he will react but he does amazing with other friendly dogs. He is learning to walk next to us on a leash, he does pull quite a bit but is getting better. He is in a crate at night and during the day while we are gone, he doesn't mind being in there and sleeps all night. He really loves chew toys too. He does need to be reminded to go outside for potty, but when he starts pacing in front of you its a sign that he needs to go out. He knows basic commands. He listens very well when you have treats, he would do well with advanced training too! Elvis is a goofy pup but is a ton of fun to foster. He would do very well in a home with a fun dog that will play with him or he could hang alone. Elvis is really worth meeting!! Elvis's adoption fee includes: rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, Bordetella vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, neuter, flea and tick preventive,(seasonal) heartworm preventive (seasonal) pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam. Adoption fee: $325.00

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Hi! My name is Ralphie. I am a 7 year old lab mix. I don't know about you but I love to spend my time relaxing! I enjoy laying in the sun and snuggling up to my foster parents on the couch. I enjoy lots of naps! I get along well with my foster sister, Maggie. She really loves to play ball, she has a lot of energy and I am okay with that. My foster mom will throw a ball for each of us. I prefer to chase the ball just a few times then trot around the yard and check everything out. My foster mom laughs because I do a perimeter check of the yard every time I go out. I want to make sure everyone is safe! My previous family took good care of me. I can sit, stay, shake, lay down and drop it/leave it. My foster mom is working really hard with me to make sure I don't sneak any people food. She's got me on a strict diet to try and loose a few pounds. I really love my treats! My foster mom says I do pretty good on the leash, however a harness may help me pull less. I really enjoy slow walks around the neighborhood just make sure you let me smell everything I can! I really enjoy chewing on bones, especially the hooves.I currently live with two cats. I hardly even notice they are around. Every once in awhile I will sniff the kitties but they don' t bother me. So if you happen to have cats, we will become good friends. Please consider me to be your next snuggle buddy! I promise to keep you warm this winter and many winters to come! Ralphie’s adoption fee includes: neuter, rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, Bordetella vaccination 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, de-wormer, flea/tick preventive, heart worm preventive, a full veterinary exam, and a pre-paid micro-chip. Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). My name is Lucas and I'm proof that even after being abused, dogs can still love people. I'm house trained and can spend time in my crate without making noise, but I'd rather curl up beside you on the couch. My most favorite thing is belly rubs! I love everybody I meet. Sometimes I like other dogs I meet, and sometimes I don't. I love kids as they are the best to snuggle with! I haven't met a cat, but based on my prey drive, I probably should not be in a house with kitties. The forever home I would be best suited for is a house where I am the only dog. I would really love it if there were kids for me to snuggle with too, but I like humans of all ages. I will lean in to be pet and be your best buddy. I tend to pull a little when walking on a leash mostly because I love to sniff everything I can and am excited to meet people. I'm also super smart! I know sit, down and I'm a really really good shaker too. I know my forever family is out there somewhere and I can't wait to meet you! Lucas's adoption fee includes: rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, Bordetella vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, neuter, flea and tick preventive,(seasonal) heartworm preventive (seasonal) pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam. I will counter surf but I am pretty good about not begging for food. I like to sleep in my kennel while my people are gone it makes me feel safe and keeps me out of trouble. Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). I am a young girl on the go ready to explore the world with my new family! Playing with balls, my tug rope, sticks or large branches and even big rocks or bricks! Yep, I like to push a brick and rock around the yard with my nose. My foster momma calls me Bunny Hop Hop or Prancy Pants and she laughs as I bounce around outside. Maybe I’m part Tigger too! We could go to training together or maybe even agility. I already know sit, down, wait, ball, kiss, go potty, here, off, in the house and am working on leave it, drop and kennel up. I’m good on a leash and do like to help you walk me which foster Momma and Daddy tell me to leave it all the time. I’m only trying to help! I wear a harness along with my martingale collar when out of my big fenced yard so I don’t slip out of my collar and get lost again. When in my kennel I chew on a durable Nylabone BIG Chew Beef Bone and a big knotted long rope. The Chuck It ball is great to exercise my jaw, paw around or fetch. I keep my kennel clean and dry. It’s great to have baby cuddle time on the couch, get my beautiful bat ears scratched and oh those back and belly rubs are awesome. Oh yeah. I live with two dogs and two kitties! One kitty likes to tease me when I’m working on proper kitty social skills. I think that cat needs training! I’m pretty good around kids but I’m young and do mouth yet in a playful way. Isn’t everything a toy? Foster momma says I’m a sweet, shiny, soft-furred, young, curious pup. A family dedicated to exercising me, keeping my brain busy and will continue to train me would be best. If you can be a strong leader for me, submit an application and talk with my foster momma to see if you are the right family for me. Bunny's adoption fee includes:Full veterinary exam, spay, prepaid microchip, dewormer, Rabies vaccine, Distemper combo vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX, flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Lola

      rescue
      Breed: Dachshund-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Meet Lola! Lola came into rescue with her puppies as a stray. Lola is very unsure of what is going on. She will need a very understanding and patient family without children willing to work with her fears. Lola is very sweet but very scared of people. She seems to warm up to women more then men and has made an amazing bond with her foster mom, but it takes awhile for her to show signs of being comfortable. Lola strives best with another dog in the house. Other dogs help her come out of her shell and helps her build her confidence. Lola loves other dogs and it will help her learn to trust humans better by learning from the other dog in the home and to learn that people are friendly and not scary. When Lola is scared she reacts by running and hiding and trying to bury herself in a corner. She is scared to be touched if she doesn't know you and doesn't like to be held. Lola is working on potty training and is doing very good! It takes some coaxing to get her outside, but once she is, she will go potty. She has done very well with going to the bathroom outside and hasn't had an accident in her foster home in quite awhile. This is huge progress for her. Lola likes to spend her time lounging on the couch on her own. She isn't much of a cuddler but will curl up by your legs if you're laying on the couch next to her. Lola would not do well in a home with a lot of activity and loud noises. Children and new people make her very nervous and scared. Lola is very sweet and quiet. She needs a home that is willing to help build her confidence which she is extremely lacking in. The ideal home for Lola would be a quiet home with low activity and understanding that she has fears of people but with another animal companion that will help her come out of her shell a ton. In her foster home she has shown much improvement over the last few months, but still struggles with the unknown. When Lola is frightened she has never shown any aggression, she has the flight response and wants to run as far away as possible and almost wants to be invisible. Lola is kennel trained and will need to be kenneled when no one is home. She does great sleeping in her fosters bed at night and will cuddle by your legs. But when left alone during the day she has anxiety and has started to become destructive. She does great in her kennel and doesn't make a sound. Lola is not leash trained and is fearful of them. She will try to escape and chew through the leash. Because of this, Lola requires a fully fenced in yard. Lola is a tougher case and really needs someone who wants to work with her. Despite Lola's quirks, she is the sweetest girl and once she gets to know you, she becomes your little shadow. Lola's adoption fee includes: Rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, bordetella vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, spay, flea and tick preventive (seasonal), heartworm preventive (while in rescue), pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam. Adoption fee:$285.00
