We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Kai is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Kai is part of a group of dogs that are currently recovering from extremely poor living conditions. The conditions that we are clearing include sarcoptic mange, skin infections from dirty conditions and lack of grooming, intestinal parasites, and respiratory infections. Every dog has at least one of these conditions; some have multiple. Full records will go with every dog. Kai will not be medically ready for a forever home until mid-June. Little shy Kai is looking for an adopter who is home most, if not all, of the day. The little guy is extremely cautious and is not very confident right now. He's still adjusting to his new environment after coming to us as a breeder release. Kai needs his adopter to be patient, loving, and kind to him as he learns everything about being a dog and your loving life-long companion. Kai does ok with small dogs but is unsure of larger dogs. He is not curious about the cat here. He would be happy as the only dog in a lower traffic home looking for a constant companion. What is my personality like? Kai arrived in rescue as part of a very large surrender from his breeder. Our experience is that most of these dogs have not had a lot of socialization or opportunities to live as pets, but they are incredibly gentle and kind. They simply need a patient home that will allow them to blossom into a loving companion. Kai's favorite thing is to be held and loved on, whether it's in your arms, in your lap, or sitting next to you in your favorite chair. Kai longs to be loved and protected. He doesn't walk well on a leash and prefers to be carried. His adopter will need to provide him leash training. Kai will also need to be taught basic commands such as sit, stay, down, come, and the like. This little dude will do well in either an apartment or a house. While he would be the ideal companion for an active retiree, he would also do well with a single adopter, a couple, or a family. Kai would not do well with children under high school age. Kai is waiting for his hero to come and rescue him and provide him the wonderful life that he deserves where he is always safe and always loved. How do I act when I first meet new people? Kai will not run up to you and smother you with kisses. He is very reserved. However, he loves being loved on. Give him a few minutes to become accustomed to you and then you can pick him up or place him in your lap. He will chill there and enjoy your affection. The little guy is resting his head on my leg and snoozing right now. He'd love for this to be a daily occurrence with you, his hero in waiting. Other tips and tidbits: Kai is estimated by our veterinary partner at 3 years old. We celebrate his birthday 4/19/2021. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet.
