Description
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Hound / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $350. Smith was sadly hit by a tractor trailer leaving him paralyzed from the waist down and his family surrendered him at the hospital. He is able to defecate on his own but requires some assistance with emptying his bladder. He is a sweet lovable boy and still races around in his wheel chair. He loves everybody and has tons of love to give. His happy go lucky demeanor would make him a fabulous therapy dog. He does not allow his handicapability to dampen his spirits and is an inspiration to all who meet him. If you or someone is interested, please send an email to AlmostHome4DogsYahoo for more info or an application. (Local adoptions preferred — Philadelphia and tri-state area [South Jersey and northern Delaware] only.) PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING US! We are NOT a shelter: All of our dogs live in private homes with foster families. Come and meet the Almost Home dogs and their fosters at our Meet & Greet events, where you can learn more about our wonderful dogs from the people who live with them, find out which dogs are on their way and when they’ll arrive, and fill out an application to adopt or foster. We cannot adopt to homes where electric-shock fencing systems or training collars are used. For more information on the dangers of electric-shock collars, please visit banshockcollars.ca/studies.php and .hollysden/say_no_to_shock.htm (scroll down and click on the "Invisible Fencing Systems" link). We do not have an online adoption application; to request an application, e-mail us at AlmostHome4Dogsyahoo. To speed e-mail processing time, be sure to note the name of the dog you are inquiring about in the Subject line. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
