Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Stunning 6-year-old Mocha is such a fantastic dog. She has been doing well with her heartworm treatment & has been with an amazing foster family since February. Her foster mom tells us that Mocha is very sweet and mellow. She is calm, affectionate & friendly with everyone in a subdued way. Poor Mocha was shut down when she joined the rescue but has warmed up beautifully. She is perfectly house trained & sleeps through the night without an issue. She is a pleasure on the leash, walks calmly, pays attention to squirrels & lizards but she does not chase them. She's become more active in the backyard and enjoys playing with her foster fur sister Gabby. She will be an amazing life companion. The loyal German Shepherd without the high energy. She's been around adults and children and has always shown a relaxed demeanor and accepting body language. She is truly exceptional.

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
