Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (medium coat). Mabel is a friendly girl who is looking for a home. She is currently with one of our sister rescues in Louisiana but hoping to come to NJ soon. We do offer a foster-to adopt trial for approved adopters. Mabel is a 2-year oldish hound mix who's as sweet as they come! This friendly girl loves everyone she meets and is always ready to greet you with tail wags and happy energy. She's smart, affectionate, and has classic hound charm. Like many pups, Mabel has her quirks-she prefers to eat without anyone hovering over her food bowl, so she'll do best in a home that respects her space at mealtime. She's also a great "alert dog" and will let you know is something's happening around the house- true to her hound roots! Mabel would thrive with a family who appreciates her loyal, loving nature and understands her little hound habits. In return, she'll be your devoted companion and bring joy to you every day. Mabel is fixed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. She was treated for heartworm and s he is doing so much better now that heartworm treatment is complete. Her adoption fee is $45 0. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
