Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Hound / Mixed (medium coat). A long time ago, we decided we would never name a dog “Lucky” if one came to the shelter and needed a name. Dogs named Lucky seemed to have the worst luck of all, so we figured any other name would be more appropriate for any dog. But when a dog is eight years old and comes to the shelter already named Lucky, and that has been her name all her life, then we’re not going to change it. This Lucky has not had the best luck, although she’s in a wonderful foster home who has given her every opportunity to have a wonderful life. Lucky was adopted, but after one month her adopters returned her. Sometimes no matter how much input we give adopters, they will not believe us and feel like they have to have the dog. And then sometimes the dogs come back to us. Lucky is pretty adaptable, and can be happy in many different situations. We really want her to have a fenced yard however, because she wants to takeoff and run, stretch her legs, and then eventually come home again. She is an astounding, loyal girl, but right now she’s trying to get through healing from a hotspot on her face. And she’s not looking all that great, is she? This 60 to 70 pound lady came to us initially due to the ill health of her human family. she lived with a beautiful sweet cat, who was adopted, and now she is living with a toddler and an infant, and has enjoyed the presence of a litter of puppies in the foster home at the same time. The hotspot on her face is being treated with a powder prednisone/antibiotic, and it’s looking much better than it did. We think lucky would love to have a nice rural home, huge fenced area to run, and a cool place to hang out when she was done with her exploring. Can you offer her that? Help her have some real great luck this next time around! Start with an application from our website. .friendsofcampbellcounty. ****** Tired of cleaning up the food your toddler or children leave around? Want an easy, quick solution to crumbs and to insure forgotten food is removed? Lucky is your dream clean team! She will eat almost any food that lands on the floor. She'll make sure you're a member of the clean plate club. (We're actively working to teach her that club doesn't need to exist.) She'll even help you meet your summer weight loss goals! Your choice of fitness plans: Option A: lovely, companionable walks as you both take in the beauty of the outside Option B: interval runs as she bolts out the door and you chase her. She slows down to sniff the pee-mail and you creep your way to her sure you'll catch her easily. Bam! She takes off just as you reach for her collar and the next run interval has started. 10/10 do not recommend this option. Whichever option you choose, she'll love to curl up on her bed once you get home and will only get up when it's the next time to eat or potty. Lucky has been fabulous with a loud, bossy, dog savvy toddler and a 6 month old infant, other dogs (male and female), and previously lived with a cat. She is truly a delight to live with and super easy going. If this piques your interest, submit an application with Friends of Campbell County Animal Control. (From her foster mom) UPDATE: we are saddened once again that Lucky was felt to be not the best fit for the family who were SO excited about adoption and took her home for one month. Unbelieveable that she has once again lost the stable home with a loving owner. We tell ourselves that it must not have been the best match, but our hearts did sink when we heard the news. Despite our sadness, Lucky did wind up with her loving foster family, who are also caring for senior dog Lady, and tells us that these two old ladies really would be wonderful if adopted together. What do you think? Are you interested in helping seniors land in a good place? ************* Sweet Lucky, signed over due to her human's incurable illness, came to us feeling sad and depressed. We were determined to raise her spirits by giving her extra walks and time out of her kennel run, and found that one added bonus to that was helping her housemate feel less depressed as well. Madison, a senior cat, was brought in at the same time, and the two of them of them seem to be good companions for each other. Lucky is housetrained, and is such an easy-care girl! She walks nicely on her leash, but would be happy just roaming around a fenced yard, if that is what you can offer her. She has been fine and even a bit playful with the other dogs she has met.
