Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Adoptable in: MA, RI, NH, CT, and VT Good with dogs: Yes Good with cats: Yes Good with kids: Yes, dog savvy children Crate trained: Yes House Trained: Yes Newt is a calm, loving boy with so much love to give to his humans. He can be a little shy at first with new people, but soon warms up, especially if treats are involved! His ideal home would be one ready for a puppy and excited to continue with his training. He gets along well with dogs of all sizes and ignores cats. Because he needs a little space and time to get to know new humans, he'd do best with dog-savvy children. Newt is a big fan of rope toys and affection from his humans. Newt is working on basic commands, and being food-motivated will help with his training. He is doing well with house training and time and a consistent schedule will have him master it. He settles in his crate, as he is crated occasionally during the day and overnight. He enjoys going for walks and is making strides in his leash training. Newt is a typical puppy ready to love his new family. Could you be his perfect person? Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
