Description
Dog Breed: Great Dane / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Meet Flat Stanley Everyone says they want a dog with a story—well, buckle up. Flat Stanley was found in a condition no dog should ever have to survive: all bones, no meat, barely hanging on. We’re talking skeletal. His name? A nod to how truly flat he was when we met him. But he’s come a long way from that crumpled start. Today, Stanley is roughly 65 pounds, about 2 years old, and still learning how to be a regular dog. He loves other dogs, cats, people—basically anything with a heartbeat—but social cues are not his strong suit. He’s the guy at the party who doesn’t realize he’s overstayed his welcome, even after being told three times. He means well; he just… doesn’t get it. If a dog growls at him to back off, he takes it as a challenge to become best friends. We’re working on it. He can be barrier reactive (think: barking when behind a gate or in a kennel), but once he’s out and about, he’s soft, goofy, and incredibly affectionate. He loves touch, loves attention, and melts into anyone who offers him kindness. He’s never known boundaries, so he needs a home that’s patient and consistent, willing to show him the ropes while appreciating how far he’s already come. Flat Stanley has been fully vetted and treated multiple times for internal parasites, which contributed to how underweight he was when he first came to us. With consistent care, regular meals, and lots of love, he’s gained healthy weight and is on track both physically and emotionally. He does well in a crate, has a good potty routine, and is working on his leash manners. He’s not perfect—but man, does he have heart. And if you’re looking for a dog with grit, spirit, and a hell of a comeback arc, he might just be your guy. This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.) To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: .sandypawsrescue. PLEASE READ: • If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this. • All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date. • Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments. Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well. Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation. For information on adoption fees, procedures, or FAQs, visit our website: .sandypawsrescue. The FIRST step in adopting from Sandy Paws Rescue is to submit a completed adoption application.
