Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). Cattle Dog, male 2 years old Welcome Rusty, a real deal red heeler from SLO County Animal Services. Rusty had been at the shelter for a while. He was a staff and volunteer favorite. The shelter is no place for a dog, let alone a sensitive heeler. He was struggling, so we were asked by the shelter if we could give him a soft place to land until forever could be found. Rusty is a stunner! He’s about 2 years old and 50 lbs. A stocky old school heeler, very likely pure bred with eyes and a heart of gold. When he first arrived we thought he was a stumpy tail boy, turns out he was just a little nervous. Once he got comfortable out came the most beautiful, long and fluffy tail you’ve ever seen. Rusty’s fan club (aka transporters) made a pit stop for lunch on the way up and said he was the best patio pal. He sat calmly and quietly at the restaurant. He watched other dogs go by without a peep or a flinch. You could tell after spending 30 min in the car with this boy, all three people who brought him up were madly in love and the other way around. Rusty is craving a human companion. Rusty is microchipped, neutered, and UTD on vaccines. Located in Templeton, CA. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
