Come meet Lindsay and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (08/03) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in XXX (3351 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, VA 22305)! Name: Lindsay Best Guess for Breed: Wire haired terrier mix Best Guess for Age: 4.5 years as of July 2025 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 9 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! We do not recommend her for a home with children under the age of 12. Currently Living at: DC area foster home Special adoption considerations: Lindsay is shy and needs a welcoming resident dog who will help show her the ropes! Lindsay is Looking For: Her forever home! This small sweetie landed in the shelter through no fault of her own and is looking ahead to her new chapter. The one where she gets sniffy walks by her humans' side and all those adventures. And most of all - the one where she is safe and loved and knows where she belongs. Right now, she's scared and confused, and needs extra patient and loving adopters who will show her the world at her pace, and a friendly resident dog who will show her how to dog! She has so much to give in return - adoring gazes and love and loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Is Lindsay the one for your home and your heart? What My Foster Says About Me: Lindsay is making progress with leash walking. She is getting along very well with my family dog and does well with the crate. She’s super calm in the car and with our other dog, never potties in the crate, and is very quiet. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
