Name: Lindsay Best Guess for Breed: Wire haired terrier mix Best Guess for Age: 4.5 years as of July 2025 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 9 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: Texas shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get ona freedom flight here! Lindsay is Looking For: Her forever home! This small sweetie landed in the shelter through no fault of her own and is looking ahead to her new chapter. The one where she gets sniffy walks by her humans' side and all those adventures. And most of all - the one where she is safe and loved and knows where she belongs. She has so much to give in return - adoring gazes and love and loyal companionship for all her days. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
