He is a charming dog with a quirky and fun personality. He has a medium energy level; he loves playing with toys and romping in the backyard, but will settle in his crate for a post play nap. He can be a bit reserved around new people, taking time to warm up, but with slow approaches and some treats, he is quick to become your new best friend. This lover of all dogs wants to go say hi to every pup he meets! He thrives being around other dogs. He has ignored the four cats in his foster home and has done well with kids, although he would do best with dog savvy children who can give him the space he needs while he gets to know them. He loves his toys, especially his squeaky ones. Albus is crate trained and will go in his crate with a little coaxing. Once he adjusts to his new routine, he is housetrained as well. He is still working on his leash skills, mostly due to being a bit nervous in the new environment. With patience and understanding, this sweet boy will surely come out of his shell and learn that leash equals fun walks. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
