Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler. Cattle dog mix, male, 2 years Jake (red) & Millie (blue) are a bonded pair of pure bred Australian Cattle dogs, found as strays along with their puppies. The pups got adopted quickly, DNA showing 100% cattle dog. Jake and Millie have recently returned to CCHDR. The family that adopted them opened their home and hearts to this bonded pair, furthering them tremendously over the last couple of months. Nobody else was stepping up to do it. The family poured blood, sweat, and tears into truly domesticating these two and the pictures are living proof. Old habits die hard and Jake and Millie simply aren’t cut out for city life. Adult dogs, bonded pair?…not high up on people’s “want to adopt list” apparently. This time around, the pool of potential candidates gets even narrower as we look to place them exclusively on acreage where they are free to be themselves, chasing flies and squirrels, digging, and self-exercising. Here is what their foster family has to report: “They've made progress on loose leash walking, especially when walking separately. We've also worked on basic commands and they have Sit, Stay, Down, Shake with about 70% compliance. They know to Sit and wait to be released before they eat. They love squeaky balls and toys and have figured out on their own that if they bring the balls back to the rug, I'll throw them again. Millie likes to use the balls to squeak back at the squirrels in the backyard. They are truly happiest when I can take them to the rugby field where they can just cut loose, off leash. Millie chases flies and Jake sniffs and digs and they both chase balls if I throw them for probably an hour.” If you have land, breed experience, and are looking for a plug and play pair, please consider Jake and Millie. They are estimated to be 2 years of age and no more than 30lbs each; sterilized and UTD on vaccines. They are dog social, in true heeler fashion need a minute to warm up to new people, NOT cat tested. They must be adopted together. Currently located in Sacramento, CA area until August 2, then it’s back to the rescue ranch in Templeton. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
