Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Bandit (A139203) is a 2-year-old hound mix who weighed almost 90 lbs at intake! 08/02/25 This big handsome goof is Bandit! Bandit was brought to the shelter due to no fault of his own. He was described as being gentle, friendly and affectionate! He is used to being loose in the house and was said to be housebroken. He was also said to get along well with kids and babies. He has been known to bark at strangers and other dogs. Bandit's previous owners thought he would do best as the only pet in the home. He was said to be pushy with other dogs and to be very people-focused, so he is looking for a home where he can cuddle with his favorite humans and not have to share! Bandit was said to ride well in the car and to generally mind well, but he follows his nose! He could also learn some good leash manners! If you are interested in meeting Mister Bandit, please give us a call!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
