  • German Shepherd Dog-Labrador Retriever Mix Dog For Adoption in Fairbanks, AK, USA

    STAR

    verified

    rescue
Breed: German Shepherd Dog-Labrador Retriever Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Star was returned to the shelter because she and the other dog in the home had gotten into a fight. Before the fight, both dogs had gotten along very well. No details were given about what may have caused the fight to occur. Her most recent owner stated that she does well with children and is indifferent with cats. She will sit by the door when she needs to go outside. Star likes to sleep on the bed or couch and she loves to cuddle! She has gained a significant amount of weight since her last visit at the shelter and would benefit from daily exercise. When she had originally been surrendered to the shelter in June 2018, we were told that she has separation anxiety and would need to be kept in a heavy duty crate as she was able to escape the standard plastic and wire crates. Star''s previous owner stated that she is an `Absolutely Amazing Dog`. She is hoping to find a loving home that will work with behavior imperfections that may reveal themselves as she adjusts to her new home. Mutual visits with other dogs in the household are suggested, and Star may do better with neutered male dogs rather than other females. Slow introductions to any other pups in the household are always recommended to help ease the transition.

    JESSIE

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Husky (short coat). Jessie is a prime example of her breed; active, personable and vocal. She will tell you her thoughts on everything, including current events (shelter news of course- who pooped where, and who got neutered today) and whether she likes the way her food was prepared (soaked, not dry, after her dental). Jessie is a friendly girl who has gotten along well with her tenders and been polite towards her canine neighbors. She has a considerable amount of get up and go so may enjoy learning some light recreational mushing or skijoring, or just going on plenty of adventures with her new human family. Because she came into the shelter a bit underweight, her new owner will need to keep tabs on her body condition and make sure that she has a nice warm indoor spot, since she is not fit at this time to be kept as an outside dog. Fortunately, Jessie has been keeping her kennel immaculately clean here at the shelter, which may indicate that she is housebroken. If you are looking for a cute little chatty cathy to keep you company, ask to visit Jessie today!

    THUMPER

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: German Shepherd Dog-Husky Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Husky / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (short coat). Thumper was brought to the shelter because his owners could no longer take care of them due to having too many dogs. Thumper has lived his life in rural Alaska outdoors. He is not house broken and does not know how to bide his time when indoors. Thumper''s previous owners described him as a `good outside dog, loves to go out country & run`. Thumper is all grown up, however he can still learn new tricks like basic obedience and how to not potty inside! He is very playful and loves treats! Thumper will be a great companion for a family that enjoys outdoor adventures! UPDATE: Thumper was returned to the shelter after 2 days in his most recent home because he bit one of the family''s children (a bone was involved). Thumper''s most recent owner states that he is jealous of babies and aggressive towards slightly older children and should go to an adult only home.

    ANUBIS

    verified

    rescue
Breed: Bull Terrier-German Shepherd Dog Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Bull Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). 01/12/19 Anubis was temperament tested while at the shelter and we learned that he is very pushy and dominant with other dogs, trying to constantly mount and grab them. Due to this we are making mutual visits with other dogs in the household a requirement. Anubis is also very pushy and rude with small children so he cannot go to a home with children under 12 years old. Anubis was surrendered to the shelter because he was becoming destructive in his most recent home when left alone. He had originally been crated but was becoming adept at breaking out of his wire crate; when left to roam free he jumps on counters, chews cords and ruins other things he shouldn''t. Anubis'' previous owners think he may have separation anxiety, and with one adult family member away frequently for work and the other wrangling several young kids, they have not been able to work with him on resolving this issue. Anubis may require additional training to overcome his separation issues, a heavy duty kennel when he is alone, and may benefit from a behavioral consult with a vet. He is also made up of two breeds that are highly intelligent and highly energetic. Anubis will not do well as an apartment, stay at home dog. Anubis will need large amounts of exercise and play time; having a purpose or a ''job'' may help modify his anxious behaviors. Anubis may also need a family where his people are either at home with him or willing to bring him with them. Anubis reportedly does well with babies, children, adults, most other dogs (he can tend to be dominant, so mutual visits with other dogs in the home are strongly encouraged). Anubis does not have much cat experience, his previous owners believe him to be curious but not aggressive. Caution should always be exercised when introducing new pets to each other! Anubis knows ''sit'', ''lay down'', is housebroken, rides well in a car, and is generally outgoing, affectionate, playful and friendly. Anubis appears to have some skin inflammation that may require him to be on a special food or even meds to make sure his skin does not become too irritated. Anubis received a dental and will need soft or soaked food until 1/25/19.

    SNOOP

    Breed: Akita-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Akita / Mixed (short coat). 6/26/19 Snoop was brought to the Animal shelter because his owner did not have enough time to provide care. Per previous owner, Snoop is housebroken, kennel-trained and will gladly sit down if you have a snack for him. Snoop is a young puppy who will need basic obedience training. Per previous owner, Snoop may jump on people and dogs and start playing with them. Snoop may dig and chew if he is bored and left unattended. Snoop will be looking for a caring family which will provide him with a fun life! Come and visit with Snoop! 01/17/19 14:38 Snoop is a lot of dog and needs a strong, patient owner who can give him consistent training and exercise. His most recent owner said he is good with children but we recommend bringing the whole family down to make sure everyone gets along well since he is such a big boy. Snoop has not lived with small animals or cats but has demonstrated prey drive here in the shelter and may not be safe to live with small animals. Snoop is good with dogs but he has a big personality so we recommend bringing your dogs down to meet him.

    Breed: Alaskan Malamute-Husky Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Husky / Alaskan Malamute / Mixed (long coat). Elle was brought to the shelter because she is true to her breed and is destructive if she does not get adequate exercise. Elle needs work with socialization and teaching her how to be an inside pet. She is not potty trained yet. Due to her shy nature a home with kids younger than 5 years old. Elle needs an active home that has the time to put lots of time into her. It is highly recommended that she is taken to training classes to help expedite her socialization skills. Her new owners will need to be very cautious that she does not go out unrestrained because if given the chance she will run away. Elle is very shy but sweet and would love to meet you!

    QUIN

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Mutt
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). Quin was surrendered to the shelter because his owner was deploying. According to his previous owner Quin is house trained, kennel trained, rides well in the car, and loves to play. Quin has not been socoialized very well and he is very fearful of new people and new situations. To tell you all about his anxiety, Quin will bark loudly and may appear intimidating, but he will warm up given time. Sometimes Quin needs to bark just to let off steam! Since he is worried about a wide variety of things at this stage in his life, please be mindful of neighbors (and your own noise limits) before adopting a loud and excitable dog like Quin. Quins new owner will have to be skilled in the art of patience and positivity! If Quin has a panic attack, the best way to help him through it is to stay calm and set a good example. If he is worried about a new person or situation, for instance, giving him plenty of breaks (short walks, moving away from the ''scary'' thing and returning after a pause) and rewarding him when he makes good choices or works through his nervousness can teach him how to handle difficult scenarios. Dog obedience classes would definitely benefit Quin to help him work through his fears and help him see that the world doesn''t have to be so scary; not only will he be around new dogs and people, in a new place, but the instructors can give you cool tips to help him move past being frightened. Because we want to set Quin up for success, he cannot go to a home with children under 12 years, as he may become easily overwhelmed. Quin loves to play with other dogs, although he can be a bit rude and rambunctious for some dogs (mutual visits with other dogs in the home are always encouraged), and caution should be used if introducing Quin to cats or small animals, as he may not know about them and may chase or injure them. Quin is looking for a home that is excited to show him the world, and make him a partner for adventures!
