As the only boy in a litter of five, Greg has stood out from the start—not just for his sweet scruffy face, but for his gentle, affectionate nature. He is a joyful puppy who is looking for a family that will help him learn the ropes of living in a home and being a member of his new pack. Greg gets along wonderfully with kids, adults, and other dogs. He gains confidence from being with other dogs, and would do great with or without a canine sibling. He has even been going to doggy daycare, where he has a blast playing with his friends and learning how to be brave by watching them. He hasn’t met cats yet, but is attentive and would likely do well with a bit of space and time to get to know them. Greg has been working hard on his puppy manners, and he hopes his new family will give him time, consistency, and patience as he continues to perfect them. He will earn his keep by giving lots of puppy kisses and cuddles! Greg has also been working on his leash walking. He is smart and eager to please, so he should make progress on that and any new skills quickly. Greg Reed is ready to find the forever family he’s been waiting for. Could that be you? A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
