Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). Update: Reid! Talk about perfection! This dog will play for hours in a yard, chasing his canine bestie, but then immediately tone down and be ready for a bout of restful attention with his favorite human. Right now, that human happens to be his foster dad, Ron, who saw Reid’s potential for attachment and training at the shelter, and asked if he could foster him. Reid is neutered, house, trained, crate, trained, non-reactive to the cats in the home, and wonderful with the other dogs. He is one of those dogs that can fit in too many different categories, from lapdog to playful, traveling companion. Are you looking for a one-year-old who might be a active companion for walking in the mountains this fall, or playing ball with the kids in the backyard? we may just have the boy for you! Possibly a heeler mix, looks like he has some lab in him, but mostly he’s a nice size and so smart! Go online to find our adoption application and to check out other photos of this handsome boy. .friendsofcampbellcounty. ***** REID was not handling his confinement well at the shelter—so it was a blessing that our foster caregiver Ron was open to a new foster pup. The good news is that Reed is fitting in beautifully, loves Ron and his family, and is enjoying visiting the other dogs from a distance. Because he was just neutered he cannot immediately interact, but it won’t be long before he’ll be up to that as well. We think Reid is about a year-and-a-half or two years old, but of course we don’t know for sure since he showed up as a stray. From Ron’s observations: “He's so sweet. I think he likes working. He'll jaunt off to check something out, then come right back and sit with me until something else catches his eye, and he repeats the process. He has some nervousness, a little squeaking and jaw chattering from time to time, but calms when he is active or being stroked and told what a good boy he is. No barking or any reaction outside of interest, when he sees my dogs come by to head outside.” Neutered, smart, well-rounded, calm….. would he be a good fit for you? Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
