Adoptable in: MA, RI, NH, CT, and VT Good with dogs: Yes Good with cats: Yes, dog savvy cats Good with kids: Yes Crate trained: Yes House Trained: Yes Craig is a very laid back boy, with a low energy level. He enjoys taking naps and is happy chewing on a bone or getting endless pets and snuggles. He can be a little shy at first, but a treat or two will have you a best friend for life! Craig loves to lightly play with other dogs; he slowly approaches, sniffs and engages play. He is also submissive and if the other dog gives a signal, Craig will lie down and roll over. He met a cat while on leash, was curious and sniffed it, so would likely get along with a dog savvy cat. He has met a young child and did well, but would probably do best with children who give him the space to feel comfortable. He has a very tender spirit and would likely love to snuggle with a small best friend. Craig is completely crate trained and goes in and out of his crate willingly and on his own. He settles in his crate with no issues. He is house trained, but is used to being taken outside at regular intervals. Craig is very treat motivated and super intelligent and has learned "touch", "place", "sit", "paw". Just for fun, his foster taught him "mindful" where he sits up with both paws on their hand as if meditating! He has gotten very confident on the leash and walks well without pulling. Craig is a smart and affectionate boy who can't wait to find his new family! Could yours be the one he's been waiting for? A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
