Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Meet Riley: Your Goofy, Cuddly, Entertainer! Ready to meet your new best friend? Riley is a handsome 4-year-old, 65lb Pitbull mix bursting with personality! His foster family describes him in three words: goofy, cuddly, and entertaining! Riley is a medium-energy guy who loves his chew toys and a good game of fetch. A brisk 30-minute walk usually leaves him happy and ready for some quality snuggle time on the couch. He's a smart cookie who is highly food-motivated and truly enjoys training sessions. The Awesome Stuff: * Training Pro : Excels at "sit," "down," "stay," and "place." * Super Cuddly : He loves to snuggle up on the couch or on the bed. * Leash Skills : Fantastic at walking with a loose leash (when not distracted by potential dog friends!). * Crate Trained : Sleeps soundly in his crate overnight without a peep. * Easy Grooming : Doesn't mind being handled or bathed, and is fine being picked up. * Potty Trained : Reliably lets you know when he needs to go outside. * Good Alone : After a couple of weeks to settle in, he's calm when left alone at home. * People Person : Riley has never met a stranger he didn't like! He frequently gets compliments on walks for being so handsome and polite. Riley's Journey & What He's Looking For: Rescued from a high-kill shelter in Modesto in August 2024, Riley has come such a long way! He initially struggled with leash reactivity towards other dogs, but thanks to a dedicated 60-day board-and-train program at RFRD Academy (and continued work with his fosters), he's made huge improvements. While he still gets excited and pulls towards dogs out of curiosity sometimes, he's actively working on staying calm around other dogs and is learning fast. He's looking for a loving home where he can be the only dog, soaking up all the attention from his adults or teenage family members. Riley is a truly wonderful dog with tons of love to give. He's neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated – all ready to find his forever family! Could Riley be the silly, adoring companion you've been searching for? He's currently boarded at RFRD Academy in San Jose, CA, and is eligible for foster or adoption through Pack Lyfe Rescue. Fill out an application today, and let's see if it's a match! Overview:
The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is a robust and intelligent breed, originating in the United States from crossbreeding Old English Terriers and Old English Bulldogs for dog-fighting purposes. Physically, they are medium-sized, known for their muscular build, broad heads, and powerful jaws, typically weighing between 30-60 pounds. Their coats are short and come in a wide array of colors. Temperamentally, a well-socialized APBT is often described as loyal, affectionate, and people-oriented, displaying a playful and sometimes clownish demeanor. They can be excellent family companions, provided they receive consistent training and early socialization, though their high energy levels mean they thrive with active owners. While they can adapt to apartment living with sufficient exercise, a house with a secure yard is often preferred. Notable health considerations include a predisposition to hip and elbow dysplasia, allergies, and certain heart conditions.
