Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Cowboy, along with 6 of his siblings were saved by my wife and me. They were at death's door and Cowboy was the runt. We found out that Cowboy was born on March 28th of this year. We spent 3 months bringing the pups to a healthy status including all vaccinations, worm/flea medication, & spayed/neutered. Cowboy didn't turn out to be much of a Cowboy because he is such a lap dog. He was diagnosed with a small heart murmur and the vet thought the condition might resolve itself since he was the pup closest to death. He has made a remarkable comeback. Still, he is happiest when he's in your lap, with his eyes glued to yours. Cowboy will never be a big dog. We think he be a smaller, medium sized family member. **** Breed: pit mix **** Pet Link: .nokillnetwork/adoption/pet_detail.php?petid=2187925&flag=1

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
