Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Miniature Pinscher / Mixed (short coat). Meet Our Sweet Senior Duo - Peter and Piper Available for Foster-to-Adopt! These two adorable Chihuahua/Min Pin mixes recently came into Somerset Regional Animal Shelter after being abandoned in an apartment. They are a bonded pair, which means they must stay together, and we wouldn't have it any other way - their love for each other is truly special. Both are friendly, gentle, and just a little confused about why they've ended up at the shelter. They're looking for a safe, loving home to spend their golden years. They’re about 10 years old; Peter is a brown and white male and Piper is a black and white female. We are offering them as a foster-to-adopt pair to help make their transition easier. If you've been thinking about opening your heart and home to two deserving pups, these sweet souls would be forever grateful. To meet our fabulous pets, stop by Somerset Regional Animal Shelter, 100 Commons Way in Bridgewater, NJ. We're open daily 12-3:30pm, no appointment necessary! For more information, call the shelter at 908-725-0308.

Breed overview
Overview:
The Chipin, a lively cross between the Chihuahua and Miniature Pinscher, originated in the United States as a designer breed. These small yet sturdy dogs typically weigh between 5-10 pounds, boasting a short, smooth coat that comes in various colors like black, tan, chocolate, and fawn. Physically, they often inherit the Chihuahua’s apple-shaped head or the Miniature Pinscher’s sleek build, with expressive eyes and alert ears. Temperamentally, Chipins are known for being affectionate, energetic, and surprisingly courageous, often displaying a "big dog" personality in a small package. They can be excellent companions for individuals or families with older children, and their compact size makes them highly suitable for apartment living, provided they receive adequate exercise. While generally healthy, potential health concerns include patellar luxation, dental issues, and heart conditions, inherited from their parent breeds. Early socialization and consistent training are crucial for a well-adjusted Chipin.
