Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). Cattle Dog female 1 year old Welcome Kyra! Another Bakersfield stray found by a Good Samaritan. They got her vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped before sending her our way so that upon arrival to CCHDR she’d be ready to land forever. Kyra is a miniature cattle dog mix, approximately 1 year old, 24lb and very sweet from what we can tell so far. She’s been excellent with the pack of resident dogs, very playful and respectful. In fact, she was a bit shy and nervous initially with her change in environment, but the other dogs got her out of her shell quickly. While not a requirement, we think she’d thrive with another dog friend in the home. Cats are unknown at this time, but given her cautious and gentle demeanor - coupled with a proper introduction - we think she’d be okay. She appears to be housebroken and sleeps soundly in a crate through the night. She is very sweet and intrigued by her 8 year old foster human. This girl seems versatile and packed with potential. Stay tuned as we learn more! Located in Arroyo Grande, CA More photos and updates: .facebook/media/set/?set=a.1545405553087760&type=3 Interested in Kyra? Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
