Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Terrier / Mixed. A SWEET FRIEND FOR YOU: Approx. 7 years old / Approx. 25 lbs. & needs to gain a little weight Hi, I’m Ernie, but I answer to the name Max (please refer to Ernie though when inquiring about me as that’s the name all my records are under). I was adopted a few years ago, but when my owner had to move into assisted living, I couldn’t go along. Thankfully, Mostly Mutts welcomed me back with open arms, and now they’re helping me find another wonderful home to call my own! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met other dogs at Mostly Mutts and did not care for the male dogs, but did better with the mellow females. If you have a mellow-natured female, let’s meet and see if we can be pals. / No cats for me as I saw one on a walk and reacted negatively. / I wasn’t around kids in my former home, but I did meet kids at Mostly Mutts around 10 years old. I didn’t really pay attention to them, so if you have calm-natured kids around 10 years old, let’s meet! • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’ve spent the past couple of years in a calm and quiet home with my person, and I think I’d enjoy that kind of environment again. Though I was stressed when I first arrived back at Mostly Mutts, I’ve really settled in and now I’m showing what a sweet, calm, and friendly guy I am. I enjoy playtime and can be a bit curious about the great outdoors, so keeping an eye on doors is important — I’ve been known to be a little escape artist, and I don’t want to get lost or hurt. Overall, I’m a super sweet, quiet, and playful good boy who’s ready to bring lots of love to my new family / My energy level is 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I am a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program, where I have mastered the ‘sit’ command so far, and can’t wait to learn even more! Check back soon to see what else I have learned. / My crate manners are good at Mostly Mutts and were good in my former home, too. / My potty manners have been good at Mostly Mutts and were also good in my former home. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love to play and especially love it when a ball is involved. Spending time with the nice volunteers makes me happy, too! I’m sure we’ll find lots of other things we will enjoy doing together. / The trucks and loud vehicles that pass me on my walks make me nervous and I bark loudly and lunge at them, so please keep a good hold of my leash and let’s find a quieter place to walk. I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on my annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I need to stick to a lamb-based diet, so I’m eating Purina Lamb & Rice. There are several lamb-based foods out there to choose from, but please stick with lamb as I just won’t eat anything else – trust me, the folks at Mostly Mutts tried and I just lost weight. Lamb-based makes me happy and helps me maintain a healthy weight. I am looking for a wonderful calm home with a loving family! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
