Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). CALVIN - 10 years old, 62 pounds, nervous with new people, potty trained, house trained, no young kids, no other pets. Calvin unfortunately ended up with us when his owner passed away. Calvin is a quiet boy. He is nervous meeting new people but he did allow me to slip the lead over his head and lead him outside. He is easy to walk on the leash, and was able to free roam in the home. Calvin has been through some obedience training. He sits if you stop to talk to someone. Like a pro! Quietly he waits as you finish your conversation. Such a good boy! I’m betting someone spent time with Calvin, that which you will benefit if you consider adopting! I bet he enjoys going on adventures, hikes, walks and maybe even runs! (Ok maybe not runs as he has a bit of a round belly!) He does enjoy chasing small animals like squirrels, bunnies, birds, outdoor cats. That’s all we know about Calvin so far but we will update when we learn more. We are looking for a family willing to give Calvin time to settle in and time to adjust to a new routine and new people. Calvin is currently in a back kennel so come in and ask to meet him!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
