Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Igor is a gentle soul with a heart full of love, he's just a little shy about showing it at first. This bashful boy might hang back when meeting new people, but give him a little time and patience, and you'll see his sweet, affectionate side come shining through. Once Igor feels comfortable, he loves soaking up attention, leaning in for gentle pets, and quietly enjoying your company. He's the kind of dog who doesn't need grand adventures, just someone kind and understanding to make him feel safe and loved. To meet Igor, please call 843-249-4948 to schedule an appointment, or you can submit an application at humanesocietynmb/dog-adoption-form/ If you are interested in fostering Igor, please submit a foster application at humanesocietynmb/be-a-foster-caregiver/

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
