She enjoys the simple things in life: squeaky toys, running around the back yard, and peanut butter treats like they were made just for her. She’s a mellow companion with playful bursts and would love a home that gives her both affection and time to stretch her legs. She does great with other dogs and has enjoyed friendly play in her foster home. Jean has met cats while outdoors and tends to bark at them, so a cat-free home would likely be the best fit. She’s been around children as young as two and does well. She is sweet with them, but not fully aware of her size so dog savvy kids might be best. Jean is both crate and house trained and follows her routine with ease. She loves her walks and exploring the world with her person, however, she is working on her leash manners in new enviroments, as she gets excited to see it all. No doubt she will master the leash with consistency and familiarity. With her easygoing nature and polite manners, she would be a smooth addition to most homes. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
