Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 450. Meet Wasko, the happy, handsome shepherd! When he first came into our home he had a fractured tail, a broken tooth, and was at least 20 pounds under weight, though his temperament wouldn't have been an indicator. Fast forward a couple of months and Wasko is a healthy, loving boy. And his tail is still going strong! He loves to play ball and he'll be your best road trip companion! But really, if he could go for a car ride every day he would still ask for more. He's learned basic commands and sleeps well in his kennel. We haven't tested him with cats, but he has a high prey drive so we are guessing it wouldn't be a strong suit. He likes other dogs, but he does feed off their energy, so calm/confident fur friends would be best. Wasko is looking for a new person, or family, who can show him love and consistency...and give lots of head pets and treats, and a car rides, too. Wasko is from a local owner surrender. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. A.K.A.: Alsatian, Alsatian Wolf Dog, Shepherd Dog, GSD, Deutscher Schäferhund, Schäferhund, Berger Allemand, Pastore Tedesco, Perro de Pastor Alemán, Alsatian Dog
Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
