Description
Dog Breed: Hound (short coat). TATUM arrived as a road-weary stray, well-socialized, and already a volunteer favorite! TATUM has stories to share, but would prefer to have her life interview in the privacy of a comfy home setting where she can lay back, snuggle in a dog bed, and chill out. Her attitude is forgiving, as if she feels she is being a bother. Our volunteers asked her if they could draw blood, and she willingly agreed, giving her paw for easy access, and snacking on treats during the process. Senior hounds are the best! All adoptions begin with an application, found under the "Animals" tab on our website, friendsofcampbellcounty. *Unaltered babies under the age of six months can be adopted only to residents of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, and counties touching Campbell County. *Unaltered adult pets six months or older will need to be sterilized before they can be adopted outside our local area of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, or counties touching Campbell. *We do not promote dog adoptions to homes where an invisible fence is the fencing of choice. *We do not permit cats or kittens to be declawed following adoption.

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
