Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. A DARLING PUPPY FRIEND: Approx. 9-10 months old / Approx. 21 lbs. & growing Hi, I’m Alfie! I came to Mostly Mutts after finding myself at animal control - I’m still not quite sure how I ended up there, but I’m so grateful to be with Mostly Mutts now. I’m a sweet, hopeful pup with my whole future ahead of me, and I can’t wait to meet the person who will make me part of their family. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met other dogs at Mostly Mutts and was interested in them though not quite ready to play with them, but I also didn’t show any aggression, so if you have a nice dog at home already, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a sweet and happy pup and can be a little jumpy as pups can be. I was initially nervous about things going over my head - even a new-collar during spa time - but I’m already improving as I learn that good things come with gentle handling. I did great for my bath and ear cleaning, and once I settle in, my friendly, joyful nature really shines. I’m all puppy, all heart, and so ready to share my sweetness with you! / Energy Level: 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm in the Mostly Mutts University training program and have already mastered the ‘sit’ command and I look forward to learning more. I’m looking for a family that will teach me everything I need to know to grow up and become a wonderful adult dog - so get ready for some training with your new best friend. / I’m doing well in my crate at Mostly Mutts. / I’ve been having accidents on the shelter schedule, so I’ll need my new family to finish my potty training. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love to cuddle, enjoy toys and I’m a big fan of people now that I’ve settled in at Mostly Mutts! I’m still a puppy, so we’ll definitely discover plenty more things I enjoy as we get to know each other. / Other than sometimes not liking things going over my head, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
