Description
Dog Breed: Rottweiler (medium coat). Ares (A140507) is a 5-year-old Rottweiler who weighed just over 60 pounds on intake! 12/04/25 This goofy boy is Ares! Ares is quite the character and looking for his right place to call home. He was described as an outgoing, friendly, and affectionate dog. However, he does have a rough style of play and used to roughhousing with his male owner. Ares was said to be a high energy dog and does not understand his strength. When it comes to children, he will barrel into them without even realizing it. He would do best in a home without children under 12 to avoid any accidental knockovers. Ares was stated to be kennel trained, housebroken, and rides well in a car. Ares also knows the command sit and stay but does not always mind the best. He is also a very strong boy and could improve on his leash etiquette. Ares has no experience with smaller critters and was said to do well with other dogs as long as the other dog is not reactive. Appropriate introductions are important for setting him up for success. Ares was said to love cuddling and also enjoys having hard plastic toys (squeakers do not stand a chance)! Overview:
The Rottweiler is a powerful and intelligent breed, originating in Germany where they were primarily used to drive cattle and guard property. Physically, they are robust dogs, instantly recognizable by their medium-large size, strong build, and striking black coat with distinct tan markings, particularly on the muzzle, chest, and legs. Their temperament, when properly socialized and trained, is one of unwavering loyalty and confidence; they are known for being calm and courageous, making them excellent guardians. While generally good with children within their own family, their protective instincts mean they require supervision with strangers. Due to their size and need for regular exercise and mental stimulation, Rottweilers are generally not ideal for apartment living and thrive in homes with secure yards. Health-wise, they can be predisposed to conditions such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as certain heart conditions, necessitating responsible breeding practices and regular veterinary check-ups.
