Description
Dog Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet Phoebe! She is a sweet freckled badger-faced, female Great Pyrenees rescued from a local shelter. Phoebe is 4 yrs old and weighs 80 pounds. She loves people and kids! She will just lay there receiving pets and listening to you. Phoebe can be a little shy when new people approach her, but she will walk right up to you on her own for pets and loving. At her foster home, she enjoys playing with larger dogs and leaves little dogs alone. However she can be reactive towards new dogs in new environments so slow introductions are best. She would be happiest as an only dog, or in a home with no female dogs. She is house trained and is overall good on a leash, but has a tendency to pull at times. She rides well in a car and loves to look out the window. She also love keeping squirrels and birds out of her yard. Phoebe is very afraid of loud noises like thunder and fireworks, so she needs a little nook to hide in when she feels compelled. She is not a fan of grooming. Phoebe is a very loving girl just waiting for her forever home. Currently she is in a foster home near Dallas, Texas. Out of state adopters are responsible for arranging their own transportation. Phoebe is spayed and up to date on vaccines. Her adoption fee is $250. Become an approved adopter with SPIN Rescue and we can put you in touch with her foster to arrange a meet. Apply at .spinrescue

Breed overview
Great Pyrenees
A.K.A.: Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Patou, Chien de Montagne des Pyrénées, Pyrenean, Big White Dog, Bear Dog, Gentle Giant, Great Pyr, Pyr
Overview:
The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and ancient breed, originating in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, where they served as formidable livestock guardians. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs, easily recognized by their thick, double coat, typically white (though sometimes marked with badger, grey, or tan), and a distinctive "double dewclaw" on their hind legs. Despite their imposing size, their temperament is generally calm, gentle, and remarkably patient, making them excellent companions. They possess a natural protectiveness, which translates to a watchful eye over their families and property. While loving and tolerant with children, their size and barking tendencies make them less suited for small apartment living; a home with a yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. Their independent nature also means they require consistent, positive reinforcement training.
