Description
Dog Breed: Australian Shepherd (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 300. This handsome 5-year-old Australian Shepherd is the total package — smart, loyal, and full of love! Max knows basic commands, is fully housebroken, and enjoys toys, bones, and relaxing in his crate, though he prefers to be by your side. He walks well on a leash but may pull or react when he sees other dogs. He’s played nicely with dogs before, but slow introductions work best. Max loves being with his person, whether he’s fetching a ball, getting belly rubs, or resting his head in your lap. Like most Aussies, he’s alert, aware of his surroundings, and may try to herd small children or animals. He’ll thrive in a home familiar with herding breeds and able to guide his energy in a positive way. Max needs a yard to run in or someone who is reasonably active to help him stay happy and balanced through walks, play, and mental stimulation. Adoption is $350 which includes his neuter, age-appropriate vaccines, microchip and current monthly prevention. To fill out an application for this animal or a general application click HERE. The Australian Shepherd, despite its name, actually originated in the western United States during the 19th century, bred primarily for herding livestock on ranches. These striking dogs are medium-sized with a sturdy build, often sporting captivating merle coats (blue or red) and piercing blue, amber, or marbled eyes, sometimes with two different colors (heterochromia). Known for their exceptional intelligence and high energy, Aussies possess a strong work drive and thrive on having a "job" to do, whether it's agility, obedience, or extensive exercise. Their temperament is generally loyal, affectionate, and good-natured with their families, though they can be reserved with strangers. Due to their high exercise requirements and need for mental stimulation, they are best suited for active families or individuals with ample outdoor space and a commitment to training; apartment living is generally not ideal. Potential owners should also be aware of common health concerns like hip and elbow dysplasia and certain eye conditions, including Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA).
