Description
Dog Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Hound / Mixed (medium coat). Skunk update! Skunk's foster has an update: "I've had a chance to cat test him and he is in fact cat safe! He also adores kids. Now that being said he is a big dog and could knock them over in excitement. With appropriate supervision and reinforcement of his training he can live with youngsters. We had an excellent session at our friend Joan's where Skunk hung out with her kids and their kitten Squash (who's quite full of himself and has zero fear of dogs lol). His favorite activity was having little Josie toss treats to him while he was on place *People social *Dog social *Cat safe (tested with a dog-savvy kitten) *Has training *He's a hound-lab mix with a natural search behavior so could easily pick up nose work *Crate trained *Would make a fun hiking companion *Young and energetic but has been taught how to settle in the home." Skunk will also be available to meet at PetSmart in Lynchburg VA on Saturday 2/21, 11-12 PLEASE NOTE: This pet has been posted by Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Rustburg, VA. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
