Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $685. To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see HERE Age: 8 months (as of 1/13/26) Weight: 15 lbs (as of 1/28/26) Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. “Caution: shy dog. Contents may become extremely playful once comfortable.” Hatti is a gentle, sensitive soul who likes to take her time warming up to new people and places. Think of her as the dog version of, “I don’t know you, so please don’t look directly at me yet.” But once she feels safe? Boom. The silly, playful, toy‑flinging comedian emerges. She LOVES tossing her toys around like she’s starring in her own private circus, and yes — she’s absolutely her own biggest fan. Hatti is hoping for a calm, low‑traffic home where she can settle in at her own pace. She thrives with humans who appreciate introverts, understand the concept of “personal space,” and won’t invite the entire neighborhood over to meet her on day one. Because she can get overwhelmed when pushed too fast, she’s not suited for homes with small children. She would do well with another playful dog in the home, they help build her confidence. This clever girl is crate trained, house trained, and perfectly content being left alone for a few hours — as long as her toys are available for dramatic reenactments. She’s still working on her leash skills, so she’d love peaceful strolls with someone who enjoys quiet walks, not speed‑dating every dog and human in the neighborhood. Oh — and did we mention she graduated at the top of her class at Modern Dog? Yes, she’s basically the valedictorian of “please don’t rush me.” Adopting Hatti means inviting in a loyal, quirky, hilarious companion who will reward patience with endless love, charm, and toy‑flinging entertainment. For the right person or couple — especially someone who loves a quiet home and a dog with character — Hatti will be pure gold. Medical Note: This puppy was born to a mother dog who was positive for heartworm disease and had circulating microfilaria. Microfilariae can be transmitted from mothers to unborn puppies through the placenta; these worms, however, will not develop in the puppy into adult heartworms because the heartworms must pass through a mosquito to fully develop. Microfilariae may live up to two years within the host dog in whom they were born, but they should be eliminated when the puppy received its first dose of heartworm preventative. This puppy has been given heartworm preventative regularly while in SOS care, but to ensure that any remaining microfilaria are fully eliminated and the risk to other dogs (via mosquitos) is minimized, SOS recommends that the puppy be kept on Advantage Multi or Parasedge (imidacloprid + moxidectin) for monthly heartworm preventative for at least the first three months after adoption. This product provides protection from heartworm disease as well as fleas, but another tick preventative (oral) should be used. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. Breed overview
Overview:
The Chiweenie, an adorable and increasingly popular designer breed, is a delightful cross between the spirited Chihuahua and the charming Dachshund. Originating in the United States, these small companions inherited a unique blend of traits from their parent breeds. Physically, they typically possess a long, low body reminiscent of the Dachshund, combined with the often-large ears and expressive eyes of the Chihuahua. Their coats can vary widely in color and texture, from short and smooth to long and wiry. Temperamentally, Chiweenies are known for being loyal, affectionate, and surprisingly energetic. They often exhibit a playful and sometimes stubborn streak, making early socialization and training beneficial. Their small size makes them well-suited for apartment living and families with older children or individuals seeking a devoted lapdog. While generally robust, potential health considerations include issues common to their parent breeds, such as patellar luxation and intervertebral disc disease, making regular veterinary check-ups important for their long-term well-being.
