Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Meet Carl! Born November 7, 2025, Carl and his littermates came to WAG at only a few days old. Carl's littermates have all found homes, and now he's in a foster home waiting for his turn for a forever home. Carl is a polite puppy and is learning a lot in his foster home. He is mostly potty trained, and is great at sitting by the door to let people know when he needs to go out. He is working on basic training and some leash skills. Carl is a great mix of wanting to be with his people, but he is also able to spend some time apart without showing signs of anxiety. WAG puppies require a visibly fenced yard, people who are home most hours and can provide consistent training, no children under the age of five, and no cats or dogs over the age of eight. WAG has provided all age-appropriate vaccinations, but it will be the responsibility of the adopter to neuter Carl at the age recommended by their veterinarian. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
