Description
Dog Breed: Hound (short coat). Tatum, sweet senior, has been fostered for many weeks. She came in from a family who said she wandered up to their place and would not leave. She is SO comfortable in the house, and is gentle with other dogs. She is most likely at least 10 years old, but is in excellent health other than in need of some dental cleaning at some point. Tatum’s foster mom says that she will gently stand on her back legs, and carefully touch Wendy when Wendy offers her treats. She also gives a paw anytime she sees the treat container coming out, so we feel certain she’s been well trained with treats and positive reinforcement training. Tatum is great with cats. She sniffs them and then goes on about her business. Please start with an application PLEASE NOTE: This pet has been posted by Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Rustburg, VA. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
