Dog Breed: Hound (short coat). Ford is a handsome, tricolor hound with a wonderful temperament and an easygoing personality. At just 2 years old, he has the perfect mix of playful energy and calm companionship. Ford is neutered, great with other dogs, and very playful while still respecting other dogs’ boundaries. After playtime, he settles down quickly and enjoys relaxing with his people. One of Ford’s standout qualities is how much he adores children. He was especially gentle and patient with a dog-savvy three-year-old child in his foster home and clearly enjoys being part of a family. Ford is also a big fan of snuggling and loves being close to his humans. He adapted quickly to a new in-home environment, which tells us he’ll transition smoothly into a forever home. His recent adventure helped us learn more about the kind of home where he’ll thrive, and we’re confident he’ll make a fantastic family companion. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
