Meet Mouse, a gentle and affectionate 3–4-year-old Anatolian Shepherd / Great Pyrenees mix who has been deeply loved by his family. Due to significant changes in the household related to their child’s medical needs, they can no longer give Mouse the time and environment he needs. About Mouse Breed: Anatolian Shepherd / Great Pyrenees mix Age: 3–4 years Color: Blonde Gender: Male (neutered) Vaccines: Current Potty Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Unknown Living Situation: Has lived both indoors and outdoors Other Pets: Has lived with dogs, cats, and children History: Adopted from a breeder in Elk Grove Behavior & Temperament Children: Friendly Visitors: Very well-behaved and kind Handling/Sharing: Allows people to take food and toys Personality: Gentle giant, calm, loving, loyal — a classic livestock-guardian temperament adapted to family living Reason for Rehoming The family now cares for a disabled child who requires full-time attention and has difficulty being around animals. No one is home during the day, and they want Mouse to have the companionship and stability he deserves. All animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (including rabies if over 4 months old), microchipped, and spayed or neutered. All dogs have been been vaccinated with DHPP and Bordatella (kennel cough) and heartworm tested negative (if over 6 months). All cats have been vaccinated with FVRCP and current on flea control. The Anatolian Shepherd, an ancient and noble breed, hails from the rugged plains of Anatolia (modern-day Turkey), where they served as formidable guardians of livestock for thousands of years. These impressive dogs are renowned for their substantial size, typically weighing between 80-150 pounds and standing 27-29 inches tall, boasting a dense double coat that can range in color but is often fawn with a black mask. Their independent and intelligent nature makes them exceptional working dogs, displaying a strong protective instinct balanced with a calm demeanor. While fiercely loyal to their families, their guardian roots mean they are not ideal for apartment living; they thrive in homes with ample space and a job to do, making them unsuitable for inexperienced owners. With proper socialization and training, they can be wonderful companions, though their watchful nature means they often bond more closely with one or two family members. Generally a robust breed, potential health concerns include hip and elbow dysplasia, and bloat.
