Come meet Lefty and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (Feb. 8th) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Rockville (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895)! Name: Lefty Best Guess for Breed: Lab/retriever mix Best Guess for Age: 1.5 years as of December 2025 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 51 lbs but needs to lose weight Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area foster home Lefty is Looking For: Lots of sniffy walks and romps in parks and all the adventures his new family can dream up. Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed would be great too, but you know what he wants most of all? A safe and loving forever home! What My Foster Says About Me: Lefty LOVES to snuggle - it is his love language for sure. Although he's a bit on the chunky side, he will absolutely make sure he fits in your lap or be your weighted blanket while watching TV. He enjoys going for walks, running with friends at the dog park, and passed his daycare evaluation. He can be a bit vocal during play but respects other dogs when they tell him they've had enough. He has been doing well with house-breaking and crate training, although he would prefer to sleep in the bed as his first choice. Lefty was in a shelter in South Carolina since July before he was able to make his journey to DC. While he was in the shelter, he was able to go to a few events with volunteers and absolutely loved meeting all the kids, adults, and other dogs. If you're looking for a dog who will truly be your best friend and thinks the world revolves around you, Lefty is your man! Heartworm Information: Lefty is a truly Lucky Dog. He tested positive for heartworms, has been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.
